Summary
Motivated by some concrete problems we study the electromagnetic wave equation in a 2-dimensional unbounded domain in vacuum.
As we know the analytical solution, we analyse the dispersion and dissipation of the numerical approximation.
For the discretization in space we adopt the Finite Element Method (FEM) based on edge/nodal elements on a uniform triangulation.
For the time discretization we choose the Leap-Frog finite difference scheme.
The results obtained in Matlab are illustrated and the two methods are compared.
